How to arrive
Arriving by plane
The city of Faro is located at the south of Portugal, in the Algarve region.
You can travel to Faro by plane. Faro international Airport is served by several major airlines.
You can also travel using international connections to Lisbon or Porto, and then using internal flights to Faro. There are several flights during the day to Faro from both cities.
The distance between the Faro International Airport and the city of Faro is about 5 Km and you can take a bus or a taxi from the airport.
Arriving from Lisbon
If coming from Lisbon (Lisbon International Airport), it will take you around 3 hours to reach to the city center of Faro.
By train or bus
For arriving to Faro by train or bus, you need to find a mean to transport you to the Oriente train and bus station. These are your options:
Taxi. It costs around 10€ and takes 10 minutes.
Underground. It costs about 1,50 € and takes approximate 15 minutes. Metro trains are available every 7 minutes from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Bus 744. It costs 2 € and takes around 23 minutes.
Bus tickets cost 19 € and train tickets cost between 22 and 31 €. It is advisable to buy the train tickets beforehand as trains are frequently full. Below you may find schedule information and buy tickets online.
By car
You can rent a car in the airport to get to Faro by road. It's 285km in aproximately 3 hours. You can check the route below
In Faro
Once you are in Faro, you can order a taxi in the street in front of the train and bus station entrances. Some hotels are at a walking distance from both stations, which are very near from each other.
From Faro to the University
The best way to reach the University of Algarve from Faro is by bus. Please take the bus no. 15 or 18 to Gambelas, which leaves every 30 minutes from the bus station.
